Fall Creek

I love everything about Fall.  I love the cooler air, the frost in the morning, shorter days, the smell of leaves burning and the COLORS.  I really shouldn’t be driving around during this time of year because I am so distracted by the scenery I’m afraid I’m likely to drive off the road.

A Smoky Day in the Angora Burn Area

As I’ve mentioned numerous times before, I am deeply attracted to the Angora Fire Burn area.  It is constantly changing and I find myself drawn to it almost every day.  Lucky for me it’s close by AND (bonus), I can take the dog off leash.  The state is beginning to take down the burned trees and so it will not look like this much longer.  I find these burned trees oddly beautiful and I love the new vegetation that is growing and replacing the burned parts.

Smoke From a Nevada Fire Adds Beauty to the Sunset

Yesterday the dog (Obie T. Dogg) and I drove out to Hope Valley.  And, oh what I candy we saw. The dog loved the fact that we stopped at many different places, but we really didn’t walk too much.  Here are a couple of scenes that we saw.

Aspen at the Golden Hour

I have more pictures to edit, but I’ll save them for another day.

That reminds me that I still haven’t put many photos up from the great Rice Farm Photoshoot.  I’ll work on that.

An October Walk in the Forest with Obie T. Dogg

Obie T. Dogg and I take two walks a day when we are in Lake Tahoe.  I’m not sure why he demands to take two walks when we are here, but only one walk at home.  He’s a funny dog.  Anyway, we found a new route into the forest yesterday, not too far from our home and Obie always likes to walk in the forest because I can let him off leash (shhh…don’t tell anyone).  I always take my camera with me wherever we go because you never know what you might find.

Fall is such a beautiful time in Lake Tahoe, and I just can’t resist taking lots of photos.  Obie is the most patient dog ever.  He sits down about 10-15 feet from me with his happy face on and waits until I’m done.  Then he charges off ahead of me, constantly looking back to see if I’m coming.  If he notices that I’ve stopped to take photos again, he sits down and waits yet again.  He’s the best walking partner.

Three Bears

It’s salmon season at Lake Tahoe, therefore, it’s bear season.  The Kokanee Salmon, who spend their entire lives in Lake Tahoe, are spawning in Taylor Creek.  They turn bright orange/red and become very sluggish during this time of year making them easy pickings for the bears. If you visit Taylor Creek this time of year and you are patient, the bears eventually come down to the stream to fish.  They are generally not too concerned about people so you can observe them in relative safety.

And, if you don’t see any bears…there are always ducks.

It’s a beautiful place and a beautiful time of year.
