Gas Mask

Gas Mask

It’s that time of year again.  Time to make-up, dress up and get your photo taken.

My kids used to love to dress up for Halloween and every year we scrambled to come up with some kind of costume that was different than anyone else. Halloween was also very special to my family because my daughter’s birthday is on Halloween.  She used to think that all the people dressed up and gave candy away because it was a giant celebration of her birthday.  I’m afraid to say, I never disabused her of that notion.  It was too much fun.

I had the opportunity to photograph some young street artists who were roaming around Old Town Sacramento and stopped to have a couple of pictures taken.  These kids did a great job of not only dressing up, but also living up to their parts.

I also had the opportunity to shoot a adults, who were just as fun.

And last, although she is not dressed up for Halloween, it is a rather spooky spot for a photo.

Happy Halloween.  If you do dress up, take a photo to remember.  Print it out and display it for all to see.  Or, you could shoot me an email at schmautzhaus@sbcglobal.net and I would be glad to do a photo shoot for you.

Keli takes a quick break from her walk along the El Dorado Trail

Have you ever met one of those people that makes you smile every time you are around them?  That’s how it is with Keli.  I’ve known her for several years and last year I had the honor of doing her author photoshoot.  Here is a link to her wonderful book, A Bride Opens Shop in El Dorado. It is an Historical Romance about a young widow living in the very area I live in back in the 1800’s.  You can also get it on your Kindle.

That is not why I am writing about her, even though her book has been reissued here, along with a companion piece by Erica Vetch.  Congratulations to both

Keli was diagnosed with Osteoporosis last year and immediately joined Curves as a way to strengthen her muscles to prevent bone breakage.  One year later, her doctor has diagnosed her as basically stopping the onset set of the disease due to her regimen and incredible strength.

Strength and determination

Curves wanted to feature her story in their publication, Diane Magazine, and I was hired to do a photoshoot of her highlighting her method of deterring osteoporosis.  Aside from working out at Curves on a regular basis, she walks.

And walks.  And walks. I frequently see her and her husband walking in Placerville…no matter the temperature.

Here are some of the beautiful photos of Keli, as she and I stop along the trail.

Several of these photos were published in Diane Magazine along with some that I took for her author photoshoot.

Congratulations, Keli, and may your bones be continually strengthened.

I am updating my website (Sierra Springs Photography). Stop by, if you haven’t seen it yet. Instead of a slideshow as a way to show a portfolio of my work, the layout is more like a light box. It’s a lot of fun and all you have to do is scroll. You don’t have to wait for the slideshow.

I’ve gone back about two years to collect some of my favorites from 2011. Here are a few examples:

Enjoy.

guns and men

What a great lot of fun we had when several photographers (including me), some great models and a gun shop got together for a photoshoot.

The men were manly…

And the women were beautiful, but dangerous…

Guarding the homestead

Sometimes the women were just gorgeous (which in and of itself, is dangerous.)

But all of these guns, manly men, and dangerous women did not prevent the zombies from showing up.

And the day started out so well

Finally, it was necessary to fumigate the whole place.

On a hot summer day  in the middle of acres and acres of gorgeous vineyards I had the honor of photographing a wonderful family during a family reunion.  They came from all over the world and shared a beautiful villa in this small town in the heart of Amador County Wine Country.  It was a lot of fun.  Twenty-eight people ranging in age from 6 months to somewhere in the 80’s.

Here are some more shots.  You can see that the villa was a lovely place to have a family reunion and photoshoot.

Three generations of beautiful women

Hugs

A few of the families wanted to do a little something different.  So, we posed them a little more dramatically a la “Addams Family” and used photoshop to darken the  beautiful garden area.  A fun way to add interest to a photoshoot.

Having a little fun with posing and photoshop to add a dark feeling

Thank you to this wonderful family for the honor of being able to photograph them.
