Santa Obie T. Dogg

So…maybe you’ve noticed that I decorated my blog for Christmas.  I got up early this morning, lugged all the virtual boxes down from the attic, cranked up the Christmas music and decorated my heart out.  If you stop by, you are likely to catch the fever and end up with a Santa Hat on your Facebook profile, or some such nonsense.  (Obie T. really is happy about Christmas.)

I always like to take a peek at my pics from the previous Christmas at the Schmautzhaus just to be reminded of the decorations and the activities that we did.  I apparently took some photos of some of my decorations last year and now I can’t wait to bring them all down and decorate up the house.

]]> http://sierrasprings.commanderdata.com/2011/11/28/its-beginning-to-look-a-lot-like-christmas/feed/ 0 [El Dorado County Area Portrait Photographer] Print competition winners http://sierrasprings.commanderdata.com/2011/04/22/el-dorado-county-area-portrait-photographer-print-competition-winners/ http://sierrasprings.commanderdata.com/2011/04/22/el-dorado-county-area-portrait-photographer-print-competition-winners/#comments Fri, 22 Apr 2011 21:30:40 +0000 Karen Schmautz http://sierrasprings.commanderdata.com/?p=1066 Last night my camera club, El Dorado Camera Club, had a print competition.  The club hosts a print competition three times per year and it gives the members a chance to exhibit their work and have it judged by an impartial non-member judge in front of the other members.  In other words, one needs to put on their thick skin, put the prints up for scrutiny and learn from the experience.  It makes me nervous every time I do this, but I have learned so much from the experience.  I would recommend that all photographers put their work thru a competition such as this because it is a wonderful learning experience.  I put up 10 prints in 10 different categories.  I won some, came in second in some and lost others.  All in all I was pleased with my performance and I thought the judge to be quite fair and informative. Below is a collage of my winners.  They are cropped differently than when I presented them for the competition, but you can get an idea of the variety I presented.  The top three all won First Prize.   Obie, the dog’s, picture, the beautiful girl with the roses and the Bride all won Second Place. The Violinist and the Las Vegas Reflection also won first place (along with two others not shown here), but there was no other competition, so I don’t really think that counts.

I had the pleasure and honor of photographing a wonderful family this past weekend.  I’ve known Steve Batz for a couple of years mostly because we are both photographers and I’ve shot with him several times. I’ve known him to be a kind, good humored, low-key personality, who happens to be an excellent photographer.  However, when you put him together with the three beautiful women in his life, his personality blossoms.  I spent a sunny afternoon with them in a park nearby their home and they were all kinds of fun. You can tell by looking at these photos that they are a fun-loving family who enjoy being together.

I put together a quick slideshow or our shoot.  Enjoy.

Thanks, Batz family, for letting me spend a few hours capturing your unique family personality.  It was an honor.

I found a very creative digital scrapbook designer by the name of Lori Davison over at Scrapbook Graphics.  She does wonderful fanciful things that are a lot of fun to play with.

This is almost too much for my eye to handle, but I just couldn’t stop.  Lori has so many wonderful elements and papers and frames…and I actually removed some of the elements.  At any rate, it was a fun way for me to add some creativity to a photo that I really like.

Hmmm…maybe it is a bit over the top?
