Autumn in Lake Tahoe

East Shore of Lake Tahoe at Sunset

Have you visited Lake Tahoe?  Well, have you visited Lake Tahoe in the fall? Most people miss out on this most beautiful time of year because they visit in the summer for the hiking, camping and lake-centric water activities.

Or they visit in the winter for the skiing, cross country skiing, snowboarding, and other winter activities.

All that is well and good and great reasons for visiting Lake Tahoe.  But, consider the fall.  There is a slight chill in the air, after the sun goes down and in the early morning.  Days are balmy (in the 60’s).  The colors are magnificent and, during the weekdays, you practically have the place to yourself.

Obie T. Dogg and I have been taking lots of pictures and visiting lots of different places this past month.  Here are a few of our favorites.

The above pictures were taken in mid-September on Kiva Beach.

The next day another storm was predicted to move in from the north, so Obie and I hopped in the car and headed for Sand Harbor on the East side of the lake.  A large NO DOGS ALLOWED sign had us turning around and heading back south.  We stopped at Chimney Beach and took a few pictures until the storm rolled in, the thunder started booming and Obie T. wanted to go.

We zoomed down to Cave Rock for more pictures before the storm began pounding us and we moved on.

Big fat raindrops fell on us and again, we hopped in the car and began to race to South Lake Tahoe to hopefully catch the sunset before the storm hit.  As we were driving by Zephyr Cove, we saw the sky turn bright red.  I made a quick decision to drive in, even though there was a small sign that said:  NO DOGS ALLOWED.  I left the dog in the car (he was fine with that) and ran down the beach along with several other brave souls with their cameras.  The sky really was this color.

It was an amazing evening.

As fall days got cooler, more color began to show up on the scene.
